Inside iThenticate

How do I get started?

You need to purchase credits in order to submit a manuscript to iThenticate. At the top right of the screen, you will see how many credits you have. If you have no credits, click “Purchase Credits.” Once you have credits, to begin submitting a manuscript, click the “Submit Document” link in your folder view.

How large can my document be? How many pages or words?

A single manuscript can be up to 25,000 words, which is more than sufficient to accommodate the average research manuscript. If your manuscript is longer than that, you can purchase multiple credits and segment content in parts of 25,000 words or less.

How many times can I submit a manuscript?

You can submit your manuscript once and then submit a revision of that manuscript five times. If your revised manuscript is substantially longer than the first submission, iThenticate may ask you if you would like to submit the revision as a new manuscript.

How do I submit a manuscript?

To submit a manuscript, click the “Browse” button and select the document you want to submit. Then click the “Submit Document” button. If you prefer submitting text directly instead of submitting a file, click the “Copy & Paste Text” link.

Against what resources will my manuscript be compared?

In addition to the Internet, uploaded manuscripts/grant proposals can be compared to more than 26,000,000 published research articles from 80 global scientific, technical and medical publishers (this cache is larger than most university libraries maintain). This is a critical content component, and one not available in other services. iThenticate's comparison database also includes more than 1,000,000 abstracts and citations from PubMed, and more than 20,000 scholarly research titles from EBSCOhost and the Gale InfoTrac OneFile.

How long will I have to wait until my results are ready?

Results are usually delivered within 1 to several minutes dependent upon document length.

How will I know if my results are ready?

While this analysis is in progress, you will see the word “pending” in the report column next to the title of your manuscript. When your results are ready, you will see a percentage, or “Similarity Index” in the report column next to the title of your manuscript.

How do I see my results?

To see your results, click the “Similarity Report” icon in the report column next to the title of your manuscript.

What happens if I try to resubmit a paper for a 2nd time?

iThenticate will ask you if you would like to submit a new manuscript.

What is a revision?

A revision is when you submit a manuscript that you have already uploaded to iThenticate and you have either revised it or added more material to it and want to check your manuscript again.
